Solomon Islands dollar exchange in Katowice
The Solomon Islands dollar (SBD) is the national currency of the Solomon Islands, equivalent to other dollars in denominations of 100 cents. During the British Protectorate period, the official currency of the archipelago was the Solomon Islands pound, then the Australian pound, and finally the Australian dollar. The Solomon Islands dollar began circulation on October 24, 1977, replacing the Australian dollar. The currency is named after the Australian currency. Since independence in 1978, the new currency has become the official currency of the young nation. Coins in denominations of 10, 20, 50 cents, $1, $2, and $5 are in circulation, as are banknotes in denominations of $10, $20, $40, $50, and $100.
