British pound £
The official currency in England is the pound sterling - commonly known as the British pound. The sign that describes this currency is "£" and "L" is very rare. It is also an abbreviation of the word "libra: which literally means "weight" pound - i.e. a unit of mass. Therefore, when translating it into other languages, misunderstandings occur. From English "pound sterling", marked with the international symbol GBP, can be found in circulation the following denominations: 50p, 20p, 10p, 5p, 2p, 1p, £1, £2 and banknotes: £5, £10, £20 and £50, the latter being almost unheard of. To avoid any confusion, the word sterling, from English, was added to the pound translating in the case of silver as "high quality". At the beginning, a silver coin with a denomination of one penny was called sterling, it weighed 1.555 grams, which was 1/240 of a pharmacy pound. One British pound is 100 pence, the symbol of a penny is "p".
